The Laboratory for Aquatic Microbiology and Chemistry (LAMEC, a.k.a. “The Miller Laboratory”) is located on the top floor of the brand new, state- of-the-art Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex on the main campus of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. We also occupy space in the School of Freshwater Sciences on the Milwaukee lakefront to support our field activities. Collectively, our laboratories are within the Zilber College of Public Health in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences. We conduct research on a variety of topics related to water quality and environmental health, specializing in harmful (toxic) algal blooms, emerging contaminants and drug discovery. Our mission is to educate the next generation of environmental health scientists through our academic programming, outreach activities, and rigorous scientific research.
